Another girl series post!

The girl sat in her chair, legs folded, next to the air conditioner. Whirring sound of the air conditioner is badgering her eardrums, singing a perpetual low tone.

"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
 Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date.
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature's changing course, untrimmed;
 But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st,
Nor shall death brag thou wand'rest in his shade,
When in eternal lines to Time thou grow'st.
 So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
 So long lives this, and this gives life to thee."
The girl couldn't see the beauty about love in the poem. She couldn't because she, herself, had lost her faith in love. Cynicism had dominated and what ever humor she had before, she had lost it. Too much yellow bile or something.

But really, the girl should be a little happier than she was because the voice reading the poem was lovely and it was a male voice. However that fact annoyed her even more.

It was because it was a male voice (the girl felt the need to emphasize this fact). She was not in the mood for Shakespeare, not in the mood for love sonnets, and not in the mood for a male voice reading a poem immortalizing a supposed beauty.

Beauty, love, everything... Dissection of all of it made it lose its essence  Love is just a hormone rush, a sensation and nothing more. Beauty? Symmetry. Proportion. Mathematical equations modeled it. Passive.  Everything was so passive. Everything had become so passive. No passion, no anger. Nothing.

Perhaps in a different time, a different place, the girl would feel sadness, but she didn't.

She couldn't.
